Ivana Fischer: Are We Hungry for a Tribe?

Through my exhibition Are We Hungry for a Tribe?, I explore contemporary forms of community through the lens of fragile relationships, emotional gaps, and a quiet longing for closeness. The collages evoke intimate landscapes of family, relationships, and lost places of safety. Fragmented, layered, and often messy, these visual narratives reflect a reality in which the boundaries and conditions of a “tribe” are increasingly blurred—shaped less by blood than by a sense of belonging, tenderness, and mutual care.

The exhibition raises questions: are we still capable of closeness? And where do we look for “our tribe” when words fail, relationships quietly unravel, and the world feels increasingly hurried and distant? In the collages, traces of these attempts emerge—glances, gestures, memories, and wounds—testifying to the effort to maintain closeness. Even though togetherness may appear temporary and fragile, the search for others continues, unbroken, and persistent.
