Martina Grlić belongs to a stream of Croatian painting, which focuses on the figurative in art and on the narrative potential of the painting. Her body of work is a critical reflection on the changes that took place, and are in fact still happening in the post-socialist societies.
The Factory cycle highlights the figure of the working man, which occupied a heroic position within the socialist mythology, but became increasingly marginalised during the transitional period.
Product paintings depict popular objects which are recollection of personal and collective memory from socialist era.
Short biography
Martina Grlić was born in Zagreb in 1982. She graduated from the Painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, class Zlatko Keser in 2009. Since 2008. she has exhibited in several solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad.
She won the first prize "New Fragments 8 " with Erste bank project for young artist. In 2014. she participated the residency program iGlo'art in Belgium.
She lives and works in Zagreb.
